I have a 55 gallon tank which is going to be set up as a reef. I have 2 Perc clowns a royal gramma and a Coral Beauty. I want some blue in the tank but know i cant get a Hippo. I would like to add either 3 or 5 of them for them to school. Which would be a better choice. The only other fish i want to add is a six line wrasse. So that would be
2 Percs
Royal Gramma
Coral Beauty
Sixline Wrasse
3 or 5 Blue Reef Chromis
Let me know your opinions on this.

They likely won't school, but rather may pick each other off in time. In the wild, they school for protection. In home aquaria, they tend to go their separate ways and often fight/kill each other until there are maybe a couple left. Skip the chromis altogether, IMO and the rest looks nice.

I like these guys cause they appear to change color depending on how the light hits them. Sometimes they look white, blue or green depending on where they are in the tank.

I had 3 green chromis for about 2 months w/out any problems. I added 5 more. Two of the newcomers died within the week. They were slightly smaller and got chased. The remaining 6 have now worked out their differences and have done well the last 2 months. They school about half of the day, the other half of the time they do their own thing. Still have my fingers crossed due to their reputation for picking on each other.

they'll school (or not) if he puts the coral beauty and another larger fish or two. I think the size of the tank if anything limits their likelyness of schooling.

So my 55 gallon would be a problem for them to school? Or were you saying having a smaller tank would make them feel like they need protection and they would school?

I was thinking along the lines of a larger tank would make them more likely to school. I suppose a 48" tank covers everything from 55 to 120gallons but a larger tank just gives more room to school
