For those of you that have one of those blue sponges in their sump...HOW do you get the sponge out w/o half of what is on it getting back into the water???

Take a large piece of floss for the top of the sump or filter sock and wrap it up as you are getting it out. You will still have a lot to get loose but it will help.
Waiting for other ways myself.

Hello Meowzer,
I think we talked before and you have the same type wet/dry that I have. I changed the filter pad in the tray to a 100 Micron and now I virtually never have to clean the blue sponge filter in the final chamber. When I do remove it to clean it there is nothing even in the filter, the Micron filter is more expensive but I would not use anything else. Good luck!

Hey, I bought the 50 micron.....BUT let me ask you this, how often do you have to clean/rinse your 100micron filter?

Actually, I bought a large quantity of the 100 Micron because a LFS nearby went out of business and I got it at a steal. Because of this I have just been replacing each time with new filter pad, but to answer your question I have been doing it weekly with my water changes.

Are you still getting a lot of mess in your blue sponge even using the Micron filter?
Yes, but it may be coming from the fuge...I made the center of my sump into a fuge with sand and chaeto and some macro algae stuff

If you don't mind I would love to see a picture of how you did that because I have been thinking about doing the same.
A little off the subject but are you pleased so far with this wet/dry?

You are right, it was a lengthy thread but as always I get wrapped up in them and can't stop until I'm all done. The fuge looks great by the way, I am thinking about attempting something similar. Thanks for the info & good luck with everything.
