Blue tang and purple tang

As long as you've got a large enough tank they should be OK together. You can run into problems when you have tangs of the same general shape, such as a Yellow and Purple or a Hippo and a Powder blue together.

If you are wanting to put them in your 30 gallon then no . You don`t have room for one of them .

Take the other tang back too or get a larger tank. Not trying to be mean, but ALL of your tank is going to suffer from the bio load produced and the stress from not having enough room to swim and grow will kill the tang. Like I said, not trying to be mean just want to keep you and your fish happy in the hobby.

Be careful Blackjacktang.
Officers Smoothie and Dawman of the Tang Police don't take kindly to your tank situation. Article 10 sub paragraph 5 says, "Thou shall not have a Tang in anything but a Ocean."

Just kidding Guys! There was nothing wrong with your resplies just having a little fun.
When people ask any questions about Tangs the first thing some people do is go to your Online Profile to check your tank size. Anything less then a 125G and it's clobbering time. People are very passionate about fish here.
If your one Tang is less then 2 in. in size you'll be ok for a while. Chances are if you return it someone else will just buy with the same size tank as yours. Especially if you bought it at *****.
I can't tell you what to do with YOUR tank, it's your choice but it would not be good to add anymore Tangs to your tank. Tangs are very territorial and in a tank that size they will probably fight to the death.
What I would do is stop buying fish be happy with what you have and save, save, save and buy the biggest tank you can! You won't regret it! Again your tank, your choice.

Very funny David...I just got let out of Tang Prison for posting that I had an Achilles and a Naso in a 90 for 7 years (well 5 for the Naso)...I was young and inexperienced, I have learned my lesson...Perhaps if I get the water right in my 16,000 gallon swimming pool the Tang Police will allow me another chance....also just having a little fun guys.

Mmmmmmmmm...16,000 gallon.
I'll start the collection plate for that.
Just had a bad tang week. Have 2 local stores, 1 rocks the other does not. Keep their med to full grown tangs in 20gal tanks and end up killing them or giving them away. Last week gave away a orange shoulder and sold a foundering powder blue for half price. Suprised they don't keep the puppies in shoe boxes. A friend's large deformed purple finally past away from living 2 years in a 55.
Thanks everyone for keeping a sense of humor. I'm always a stressed out dude. Good to get some laughs.

I have a Powder Blue Tang, a Blue Hippo, a Purple Tang, and 2 Yellow Tangs in the same tank! BUT, my tank is also 250 gallons with lots of live rock and corals. Plenty of hiding spaces and 'running around' areas. GET a large tank for these fish....they deserve it. Many people are having problems with Powder Blues because their tanks are NOT big enough. From what I have read, in the wild they swim in schools over VAST areas. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck.
