Blue Tang help!

I have had a smaller blue hippo tang for a little over a year. Yesterday he started swimming funny, and his mouth will not close, and is breathing heavy. He does not scratch and no signs of white spots. Also, it hasn't been eating today.
What can it be, and what can i do?

You need to post all your parameters and a photo if possible. sounds like something went wrong with the water quality. Everyone will need more info in order to help.

System is a 75 gal, all parameters are perfect. Alougth Aqua C Remora pro has been skimming wetter the last week. I adjusted the collection cup but nothing changed, and still is full of light green water the next day.
NO3=0
trates=0
tites=0
Ca=450
PH=8.3
Other symptoms include constant hiding, and sunken in eyes. It seems to have an appetite, but doesn't eat anything when i feed.
I have a Nori clip which it usually loves, but hasn't touched the last two days.
Also, i only use my own RO/DI which tests between 0-5 PPM on my TDS meter.
Salinity is of course normal 1.025, measured using Refractometer.
I hope this is enough info.
I did add a few tank mates (Mandarian-who eats mysis, and a small yellow watchman, who just finished it's month in Hypo.
Other fish include a pair of Black saddleback clown, and that's it.
Please help my tang!
Beth! where are you!

I did forget to mention that i have a Royal Gramma that has been in the tank for 8 months. Also, starting this evening all fish seem to be hiding and not swimming around as usual. What's going on with my tank?
Also, temp is 78 degrees and Seamchem phosphate test shows ~1.0.
I added 1 tsp Kalk though homemade drip a few days ago, and have been running Carbon in my Emporer for the past three weeks. I did just emptied the carbon from the cartigages.
Other supplements added this week have been two capfuls of Kent Iodine.

I use kents logals solution iodine and it states dosage of 1 drop per 25 gal 2 capfulls sounds like alot in comparison.

75 gal not drilled, all corals are happy, should i start water changes?
Product is actually Tech-1 by Kent Marine and reccommended 2 capfuls per 50 gallons every week for 3 weeks and 1 capful then after.
I am going to sleep now, hopefully tommorrow all my fishes will be alive and someone can help me out of resolving what might be the issue. Thanks so much
I decided to do a 5 gal water change before i went to bed. :help:

good nite and yes i recomend water changes if you dont have a test kit to check levels for iodine.

Your parameters all sound fine. And if you have had live fish for a year or so in your tank, you are probably maintaining everything pretty well. do you have a uv sterilizer? I wonder if it has some type of bacterial thing going on which is not readily visible? do test the alkalinity...this is very important. It may have crept low.

I will test alk tonight after work. I went home for lunch, and Tang is to that point. you know the point where it's not going to make it unless there is miracle. maybe it was added stress from the new tank mates, or perhaps it wasn't gettiing the nourishment it needed over time.
What are symptons of iodine posioning?
Will Kent's Coral builder raise Alk?
Other fish are still not happy.
I will also do another 5 gal water change this evening.

I tried google searching last night, and all i got was mostly human poisoning from marine fish with Iodine and Mercury.
I tested my alk at 8 DH
I believe this is normal, all other fish are not eating.
Two black clowns
1 royal Gramma
and 1 yellow watchman
Please help!!! :help:
My Blue Hippo Died today after 1 year and 2 months. I actually quite sad, all my other fish arn't doing that great. I just did another 5 gal water change.

i made a phone call for a specialist but so far nothing is noted for syptoms of iodiodine poising in fish.if you have inverts it will promote premature molting.i do suggest getting the iodine levels checked just to be sure this is not the cause.as for the tang does he look bloated? please describe abnormal swimming behavior .this could also be caused by interal bacterial infection or internal paresite infestation

Now, that my tang has died my goal is to try and save the rest of my fish.
Current problem is 1 of my 2 Black clowns is hiding most of the day, not eating and is opening and closing it's mouth constantly at a rapid pace, while the other is swimming and eating just fine.
My Royal Gramma who usually is the bully of the tank, is now hiding all day long, not eating and seems to be breathing heavy.
I swear the only fish not affected is my Mandarian who seems happy as can be. I do have a cycled ten gal QT tank, which currently has a paid of flase percs in it, they are perfectly healthy and happy.
Any other suggestions?

Any chance of some kind of poisoning getting into the tank, such as bleach?
How is the water circulation in the tank?
Can you post a picture of your sick fish?

I have been trying to reseach Iodine posioning, and haven't found anything. One of my black clowns died, and my Royal Gramma is going to dies as well. The gramma'd face is sunken in, just like the blue hippo's was. Both the Blue hippo and the Royal gramma's mouths would open and close rapidly as if they were gasping for air.
For flow i have 2 maxi 1200's and a maxi 900, along with returns from an Emperor 400 and mag 3 from my protein skimmer. I have looked and looked, with out finding anything. i will try to get a pic tommorrow of the Gramma , if it's still alive, but it isn't pretty. I feel real bad, and wish i could do something.

i have done numerous searches for iodine over dose in marine tanks and even a few phone calls there are no listing for such a problem in any research other than premature molting in inverts caused by overdosing a tank. i highly doubt this was the case at all for your fish mainly becuase of the time span of your fishes illnesses.any type of poisoning would normally have taken all life over nite IMO from reading others experiences. has anyone dropped anything into the tank such a penny change whatso ever plastic ect any thing out of the ordenary.

Ok, I am as much in the dark as you are and am just gasping at straws, but have you thought of trying the Melafix and Pimafix combo?
