can you explain a little more about this dydrogen peroxide dip? ive never heard of it so just looking for more info!!!
thank you!
Like an iodine dip, the hydrogen peroxide dip can be used in cases of sickly or melting zoas to treat infection. Unlike iodine which seems to treat mainly external sources of infection (unless it is directly injected into the zoa), hydrogen peroxide appears to treat more internal as well as external.
From rosebud161616;
"put zoas in a container of saltwater (doesn't matter how much but less = less hydrogen peroxide needed)" - I personally usually use a coffee mug
"-add hydrogen peroxide by the capful. Give it a swish and a second.
-stop adding hydrogen peroxide when you see a good amount of bubbles coming off of the polyps.
That's it! Leave em in there bubbling from anywhere from 30 min - 2 hours. The longer, the more bubbles will form under the skin of the zoas (some zoas need longer though). The zoas work these out over the next couple of days. I have yet to see a zoa die from this treatment. We have had some die, but those were the ones that weren't gonna make it anyway. I don't think the h.p. put em over.
We mainly use it when a zoa looks like it might need antibiotics or it's covered in fungus (h.p. seems to kill both). If the zoa is plump but just not opening, we usually go the injecting with iodide direction or maybe dipping in tropic marin. But if they're just losing their plumpness, have that nasty fungus (number one reason we use it), or we just plain old get a feeling we should do it, then we do."
