Wally world (walma.t ) sells r/o water for like 30 gal? Don't know about the boiling water theory. It takes what like 3 min. at a rolling boil to kill bacteria? That would take for ever to get enough for the tank. Buy the r/o from walma and be done. Bottom line I guess is NEVER use TAP water. IMO!

sorry to re ask the question but boiling water for 3 min makes it almost as good as RO water? Will boiling the water before I put it in the tank make it free of any harmful things that would be introduced to my tank??? The thing is I have no car yet so I cant really get there and my parent dont go shopping often.

well not really there will still be bad things in the water if you really wanted to you would get a bunt pan and a bowl just barely smaller or exact same size. put the bunt cake on top of the pot so the tower is pointing up and put the bowl on top then on top of the bowl put ice so that the steam will rise through the middle hole of the bunt pan collect on the bowl and fall into the bunt pan. Just make sure you collect the water periodically.

Both are essentially the same and can both be used for our purpose here. There is a difference between them, I'm not to hip on the specifics though. But I do hear ppl ay they use both.

CEL. that is actually a very good idea. Boiling water does squat for cleaning the water. What an RO unit does is remove the crud that is in the water. Here is a test that you can do. Take a clean pot and put a certain amount of water in it, then boil off all of the water and then look at the pot. You will see a bunch of residue in your pot, this is the stuff that you want to remove with an RO unit. What CEL has told you to do is to collect the steam, which should be pretty clean water once it is condensed.
Oh yeah good luck cleaning your pot.

Just be sure to use a bag to hold the steam in...

Tell your folks about the idea of boiling the water...then bring up to them the increased cost in gas consumption if you have a gas stove..or increased electric consumption if you have an electric stove..will far exceed the cost of the RO/DI unit.
Also show them the pot of the crud they are drinking...and maybe that will convince them...as they can use some of the water for cooking, drinking, etc.
