bonding acrylic and glass

I need to put a new bottom in a glass tank. I have a piece of acrylic that is the right size. My question is can I use silicone to seal the acrylic to the glass? I have heard that silicone does not bond well to acrylic. Any advise would be appreciated.
I was going to use glass, but I don't want to pay $200 for the piece of glass when I already have the acrylic.

It is a 240 gallon tank. It is cheaper to fix than replace. My other thought was to get a piece of marine plywood and coating it with an epoxy to use for the bottom.

I don't know the brand it is an older aquarium. It is way overrated compared to aquariums made today. The glass is an inch thick.
I bought it used from someone. At some point he dropped a rock through the bottom. He repaired by placing a piece of plywood in the bottom for support and then putting a 3/4" piece of acrylic on top of the plywood and sealed it with silicone.
I had it setup for about a year with koi in it. Then one day out of the blue it started leaking. I took all the silicone seams out and took the acrylic out.
I was going to put it back together the way it was, but i wanted to get opinions on bonding glass and acrylic first. I think I might put a thicker piece of plywood in the bottom before I put the acrylic back in.
Yes there is a frame around the bottom.
