Bonsai tree owners, I need help!

so i've had this bonsai tree for about 6 months, but for the entire duration of my ownership, this tree is barely alive. its a light green, so its not entirely dead yet, but man is it dry. i was told to soak the pot its in, in water for 15 min a few times a week. what do you do to keep your bonsai's healthy?

What kind of plant/tree is it?
They all require different needs.

man, i dont know what kind of tree it is. it's an evergreen, that's about all i can tell you. i think it's dead, but i'm not quitting on it yet. it's just super dry, so i've been watering a little more often, and making sure i spray the actual tree a few times a day. i have the worst green thumb but i love plants.
