Bought a new QT tank for Ich

Ok I was trying to treat my fish that caught Ich in my DT, cause I really didn't have room for a QT tank,
1 I dropped the Salinity or gravity from 1.020 to 1.014
2 gave Kardon Ich treatment twice a day (I know it doesn't work) lol
3 installed a 9w UV sterilizer
4 soaked frozen food in garlic
5 raised the temp to 81F
6 20% water change
7 Ammonia, Nitrate and Nitrite are good

While doing all this I lost a few fish in the process, so I broke down and will pick up a 20 gallon tank today after work.
1 I will keep the temp the same as DT
2 no sand or rocks...just some PVC for the fish to hide
3 install a Aquaclear filter/UV sterilizer/ protein skimmer
4 water change once a week for 6-8 weeks
What can I use besides copper, I read that is a chemical that will kill the parasite but will effect the life span of the fish. can I continue using the Kardon Ich instead, being that I will have a UV sterilizer, hydrosalinity and not sand or rock for the Ich hide in, will this help? I really want to stay away from the chemical. My 1 clown, 2 Chromis and 2 fire fish has been through enough.
How low can you go for hydrosalinity in fish QT

U must go to 1.009 for hypo and keep it there. Also get a refractometer. There much more accurate. Once u get your qt there keep it at 1.009 for 4 wks. Then slowly raise it up.
Bc ur qt is new youll have to watch for a cycle

Thanks Jay, I actually did order a refractometer, waiting for it to come in, I was going to use the water in my tank since it is cycled already, yes, I know it has Ich, i was going to connect a hose and pump the water out via my UV sterilizer into the QT

Your fish have ich lol so its fine. Just keep salinity stable and watch ur ph. It tends to drop during hypo. Also your fishs appetite will increase

Mauler is correct. Depending on ur filtration , I would place some media from ur display in the qt. Thats where your bacteria live

Media as in Bioballs or a live rock? I thought it should be empty where the Ich can't hide in the rock?? I going to take an educated guess you referring to the bio balls from my old filter, I will how much can fit in the hang on filter, So can I just do the Kardon Ich treatment instead of the copper?

Thought you were doing hypo. If so thats all u need. And yes bio balls, filter cartridge, ect. Any ich on that stuff will be killed

Your welcome. Just rem excact 1.009, watch ph, and check water for any elevated levels. No meds will be needed.

No no, match qt to display. Then add fish. Then slowly drop qt to 1.009. What is your display at now?

Ok, then thats where u start ur qt. Then drop from there, should take about 2 days. Once at 1.009 its 4 wks. You should stop seeing ich after a wk. But the extra 3 wks is to make sure. Then slowly raise the qt to ur display. You will want to wait until u get ur refractometer tho

I should add. Leave ur display fishless 4-6 wks lol I know wtf. It will kill the remaining ich in your tank.. they need fish to live

Okay got the QT tank up and running, had to take out all my rocks to catch the dart fire fish, the power head is to strong (1600) GPH, ordered a small power head and cabinet stand. I dropped the salinity from 1.020 to 1.019, will keep dropping gradually every day, funny thing is, any time I did a water change the fish would get stressed out and the next day full of Ich in the DT

, last night I'm sure they were stressed with me chasing and catching them, but this morning NO Ich, I did get most of the water coming out of the UV Sterilizer, go figure! Now since the tank is empty I want to add some soft corals, what can I add that is hardy?? I like the little tree and the short ones that move, what temp and water qaulity should be for the hardy soft corals. Thanks guys
