::bounces around excited:: Read Please...

We bought some really good live rock today covered in coaalline and we discovered a black snal with one eye????? And we also picked up an emerald crab and lo and behold..we discovered a baby cleaner shrimp in the bag with the crab. It is so young it's still clear. Will any of our fish pose a threat to the shrimp? And what kind of snall has a black shell and only one eye?

We bought our rock from this place in Meterie, La called Coral Connection. . There is a webpage with the same name (Coralconnection.com).
Oh and please forgive my typos in the previous post. ;)

It sounds like you got some really good rock! :D
Don't ya love it? :D :) ;)
The blennies shouldn't bother the baby shrimp, but the damsels might. I wouldn't worry too much about it though.....unless you have another tank to put the shrimp in. As far as the one-eyed snail, are you sure it's an eye or is it a long thin tube that sticks up in the air? This would not be an eye, but it's nose. There is a technical name for it, but darn if I can remember it. The closest I can come to it is probiscus, but that isn't right. Anyway, to have a positive ID, you will have to take a picture of the whole snail, plus a photo of the apparature (sp?.....it's opening) when the snail has withdrawn into the shell and send it to Dr. Ron over at
uh...wait, can I post a link to another forum, or will this get me banned?

it may get you into trouble, but they can look up dr ron shimek ina a search engine, and ti will lead there, but it may take a few links, he is very popular, otherwise teh pic can be posted here and someone else may be able to id it too
in fact, i fyou use
"dr ron shimek"
with quotes in google, the search will be faster, sorry admin, but we all know his credibility, especially for identifying

FishyMissy...I think you maybe correct about the "eye" being a nose. I will try to get a pic up asap. :D And yeah, I like the rock. We just discovered this blue coloerd coral comming out of the rock 2day as well. It kindda reminds me of a feather duster becuase it pulls back into its tube like our feather duster. However, its "umbrella" is a navy blue and white and it's stem is blue aswell. It's cute. Oh yeah...and we have monitored our new baby shrimp and he seems fine. He has taken a liking to a snail (who btw has a small flower looking coral growing on his back aswell) and perches atop him. The damsels haven't bothered him muct...but I"m concerned about that darn banded shrimp and sally cuz they like to strick out at random objects. ::mumbles something about liking tha banded shrip better when it was humble and shy due to his missing claws::

Ohhhhhh BTW...I only paid $2 a lbs of my Live Rock. Yes, a mere two - dollars a lbs. ::grinz evilly:

clownfish4life- Where in Meterie is this place at? for $2 a lb it's worth trying out. I grew up near there and will be in the area soon.
thanks

Sinner's Girl-
I do not have the exact address on hand, however I am looking at the business card and the phone Number is (504) 467-4566. One thing about the live rock....not all of it is $2 a lbd. Theier rock range in prices. One bin have rock for $7 a lbs and another for $5 a lbs and of course one for $2 a lbs. They claim to have the largest selection of live rock in the area. Be sure to check out thier 800 gal tank. That is gorgeous. Good luck. Try to pick out the peices wit the largest amounts of purple alge growing on them. :)

Ummm.......I made the mistake of not QT'ing the rock. Since it came right out of Tampa Bay (bought from the company that aquacultures it) and I brought it straight home, there was no need to cure it. There wouldn't have been any die off to speak of. What I didn't count on was parasites being present. I won't do that again!!
Since the fish will be fine and all, I must admit that the rocks look good!!!!! :D
I bet your rock looks even better though.....$2 a lb !!!! I could have bought 3 times the amount!!!!!!
