I am getting ready to purchase a used 175 bow front glass tank and set-up. I have been in this hobby for many, many years but have never owned a large bow front tank. A fellow hobbyist told me they are susceptible to leaks. DO any of you vets have experience with a large bow front and do they leak after a few years?
Thanks in advane for your input.

cant say im a vet.... but i do have a 155bf .. had her for 2 years .. which is new but i soo no leaks or anything going wrong on her.. the silicone is still in perfect condition (still really rubbery like and not dry) ..... i dont know how a bf can be more susceptible to leacks then a regular tank tho... they are both based on the same priciples...

I had a 180 bowfront for 4 years so far with no problems and i keep fresh water fish( i should be ashamed for saying this on here but atleast their oscars) which are fish that are rough on tanks

Thanks...I never heard of any problems either...but I wanted to be certain since I have never set-up a large bow front.
The person that mentioned this to me I do not know as they were in a lfs and we had a brief conversation.
Thanks again :D

I had a 72 gal which is not known to have the problem, but I have heard the larger ones have leaked after a few yrs. Try doing an actual search here and even other BBs [old posts] on the topic. Bottom line, even a good warrenty on the tank isn't worth much when you have a disaster.

I have actually heard that 72 bowfront oceanics are known to leak. I recently bought one that was a leaker and resealed it. It's held for about 3 months now.

Mine was manufactured by AGA and I had it for 7 yrs without a problem. Its still in service with another owner. Again, the size is smaller and not considered a leaker.
