box of rocks

i have an empty 55 that i have been tossing ideas in my head for a little bit and i think i have decited to make it a fowlr, can u use any kind of rock (i know dont sandstone) from my back yard. we have acreage and i am sure i cand find some decient rocks what would i have to do with them i know the lfs rocks come from outside (i have had some lace rock with moss growing on it) would boiling it be enough

I doubt anyone would recommend it. Marine fish are expensive and sensitive. Is saving a few $ on rocks worth the risk to possibly $100's of dollars worth of fish/inverts? Any metals will leach and poison sensitive fish an inverts.

Personally I wouldn't do it unless you know for sure it is limestone. Other types of rocks may, as mentioned, leach various minerals into the tank and are generally not as porous.
I would search for Texas holey rock or do some DIY as cheap baserock

your best bet to save money would be to do some diy lr it is the safeist way for the money other then that i would just spend the money on lr at your lfs.
