I am looking for the name of a boxfish. It has little thorns around its body with a flat belly. One of the most odd fishies I have ever seen. Any help?

no it is a cowfish i believe but not a long horn. Its "thorns" arent' that long. there more like little peaks.

does it have a lot of thorns on it like a porcupion puffer does? you can check ***********.com they have pictures of about ten boxfish on there.

no its definitely a boxfish, and it is not one of the ones on live aquaria site. and they are not spikes. Let me describe a little more. There are not a lot of thorns, maybe five. It looks like the eyes are set in two of the "thorns". They kind of remind of of little space ships or something when they swim. and the bottom of there body is completely flat. Thanks for the help.

Longhorn cowfish start out with very very small horns and they grow over time. When they are babies, the horns may look like little bumps or spikes. There should be 2 horns in the front and 2 in the rear.

i have a long horn cowfish in my tank. your decription sounds like mine. http://ffexpress.com/setfish.htm has a picture of one. mine is a bit yellower then this photo. they are great fish, but need care when putting in tank. I put mine in with lights off and at night. they tend to stay toward the top of the tank, mine loves mysis shrimp. they also eat some algae.
