Brain coral detached and wandering

I've never seen anything like this before. My Green Open Brain Coral gradually detached from its skeleton over the past couple of months, and the fleshy portion is now resting on the bottom of the sand a few inches from the skeleton. It looks as healthy as ever--good coloration; expansion and contraction as one would expect with the lighting cycle.
This may have been set off by an overdose of ozone in the tank (I've since replaced my ORP controller...I only want ozone to come on at a low level if the ORP is exceptionally low. It came on and stayed on at a high level for way too long, without my fully realizing it.)
What if anything should I do? Is there a chance this thing can regrow its skeleton? Should I try to feed it more or do anything else to support it? I have recently begun drip dosing kalkwasser every night, which should give it the calcium it needs. And I do regular water changes with tropic marin salt in order to keep up on trace minerals. Anything else? Is he doomed?

I'll try to take a picture tonight. There is a whole coral skeleton laying in the sand. Three inches to its right, there is the fleshy body of the coral...now looking a bit like a wrinkly carpet anemone. It's pretty wild stuff.

I have heard of this, it is a stress survival technique called a bail out. If condions are not to its liking, it will detach from its skelaton and float to a new location. With in a few months, it will regrow its skeleton.

Interesting and very helpful. I think the ozone got to it. That stuff can really irritate corals if not carefully controlled, and it really got out of control there for a week or two. The calcium levels may have been suboptimal there for a while, too. (I had added a giant clam and, just about then, my kalkwasser dosing pump went out and took several weeks to replace.) Hopefully the little guy will make it.
Thank you for your insights. I'd really welcome input from others, too.

Not sure, I have the same thing going on with a bubble coral and no one I asked knew if it would make it or not. I've adopted a wait and see approach and just leaving it alone.
