Brain coral growth

We have a large green and brown Doughnut Brain coral and it somehow in the last few days has gotten a growth of worm like creatures on it. They are white and very stringy. When I try to scrape them they seem to contract with the rest of the body. I think they may somehow be a part of his body! Otherwise he seems to be as healthy as ever. He eats krill and brine shrimp quite often. Any answers would be appreciated.

I've had the same thing happen to my brains. I thought it was a parrasite at first and tried to see if it would come off. After a while it would disappear and surface again. I don't think it's anything to get worried about. My guess is that it is a natural secretion from the brain itself. It originates around the base or skeleton and kind of reminds me of when my bubble corals release their secretions.

Sounds like feeder tentacles to me....they extend at different times to catch bits of food etc. from the water column. I wouldn't try to remove or disturb them.....several of my corals have the same type extensions.....its also possible that what you are seeing is simply the coral expelling waste....nothing to get overly concerned about.
