My wife just gave me a green open brain for our aniversary. Its been a couple of weeks and it seems to be really thriving....knock on wood. I have heard that lighting does not really matter... VHO's at least or PC's. I have mine about half way up in my tank under 2 160 watt URI VHO's. I use Sea Chem Reef Plus 3-4 times a week which has a little bit of iodide. They say brain corals need iodide, but then again alot people say stay away from it. Reef + is just an all round good supplement. I also feed it Kent Phytoplankton twice a week. I looks really healthy and seems to like it's conditions.

I really love the open brain corals. Once I buy and cycle my tank, I will get a brain or two. The LFS owner says they're pretty easy to keep. I will also have a hammer coral and a bubble coral, among others like shrooms. I will use a 4x96 PC system.

At the LFS they have an open brain in their 20 display tank. The surprise is that they use NO bulbs, one powerglo, one actinic. I don't know if the brain will grow much under NO, but it is in the upper part of the tank, so it should live. If it does bad, the owner could stick it under one of his MH. I love open brains.

A 29 would be fine for an open brain. Corals don't need huge tanks; you could keep a brain in a 10 or smaller if you wanted to.
