Hello all,
I have been keeping freshwater for a long time. I have 5 tanks up and running. Largest is a 220.
I just got a new one. It is a 75 Gallon All-Glass non drilled. I was thinking of trying Saltwater for the first time. I always stayed away from it but now I kind of got the bug.
I would like to use a HOB filter. I have always had good luck with Aquaclear filters and that is what I was thinking of using on this 75 for Saltwater. I would like to have live sand, live rock, coral, and some fish.
Could I use 2 AC110 and 2 powerheads. Lights I am not sure of yet. The one I got with the tank is only the standard All-Glass single bulb so that won't work.
Please keep it simple as I have not mastered the SW lingo yet!!!
Any thoughts guys, Help out a first timer. :help:

LifeReef makes a super nice HOB overflow system......I would honestly consider a sump filter system over a HOB....JMHO though.......As far as PH's I would look at the maxijets for reliability.

I would go with a sump system...it allows you to have much more control I did not go with a sump system and I got a canister instead and right now I'm saving up my money for a sump system. They also add more water volume which makes it easier to control water volume.

I'm running 2 Aquaclear 70's HOB on a 55 gallon FOWLR (see xDave's link to the abbreviations) with mechanical, chemical and biological filtration. I went this rout because that's what I had leftover from FW tanks and limited $. And it works well enough. But when I upgrade I'm going with some kind of overflow, sump, canister filtration (under the cabinet) system for sure. Power heads are a great idea, I didn't invest in them at first but I wish I had. For coral I plan to get an IceCap ballast that supports 4 VHO bulbs, as opposed to MH, seems a good balance of heat, cost and brightness. Best of luck.
