Yeah I don't personally agree with sport hunting. But as mentioned it isn't illegal. You don't have to agree with it but there are right and wrong ways to go about it if you want to shut it down.
Texas is the hunting capitol here. People come from all over the nation and sometimes the world to hunt white tails.
If there was enough wild game to go around for everyone then I might see this differently. This wasn't about ethics, its about business.
Some folks simply don't eat meat that they don't harvest themselves. In which case, do you want to be successful when you go out or not? Just a thought.
This is why my wife and I stick with property managment and investment. It's pretty competitive but not as cut throat lol.

The meat always gets utilized here. If the hunters don't take it then the ranch will. It will go to the employees and their families, friends or there have been instances that I know it's been donated to people in the community.

I agree. I love waterfowl hunting, its a close race between it and bow hunting deer for me. However I dont really eat much of it, thankfully my buddy loves it so I shoot it he gets it. If nobody would take it, I wouldn't hunt it tho.

Sand Hill crane, GOOD EATIN' Only thing I've ever shot was a Buffalo. Being a gimp I can't really do fair chase so I would be a shooter, not a hunter. I'd like to whack an Elk someday but I'd settle for a Antelope. Killing them is nearly a public service in some areas, also goooood eatin.

You've been lied to I suppose it depends who dresses the meat and cooks it which it the case with most big game.

That's always the case. I've tasted some pretty bad dove as well as some excellent dove. Can't say that anyone has ever really won me over with hog meat though unless it's summer sausage. They are a plague down here. No limits on them.

Unless you can make me a believer. Though I've only tried it a few different ways. Can't say I'm a conisuer.

Cook it in the ground. Matanza.
Inject the whole hog with pineapple, jalapeno, salt and cider vinegar. Takes 12 to 14 hours to cook. But it is well worth it. You cant cook hog quick because it is different than other animals. Has to be slow cooked. Anyone cooking a 100 lb hog in less than 12 hours is cooking with too high heat and ruining the flavor.

Yep. I smoke pork roasts all the time. About 18 hours at 200 to 225 or so, good stuff. The Cider vinegar really helps tenderize it too. A good rub helps too.

Both. Pig is young so much tender and easier to cook. But hog when done right is superior!

Sounds good. Wife and I are planing a cook out over the holiday weekend. Been considering ideas. I was actually thinking about a shoulder.
Aggie, I just had a thought (shoot me now). But it is my opinion that this situation ties in directly with what I'm talking about. If state regulators don't have their hand in this then it doesn't make any sense.
Why have so many of these dime a dozen exotic ranches been popping up in Texas? Is it because the state can't put their hands on those animals legally? People come from all over to hunt Texas White tails. It's a source of pride and prestige in this state. So guy's in high places also have buddies with ranches. As I said, what I'm hearing is that there are others who seem to be having trouble getting their state native white tail permits renewed. If this isn't the competition then I don't know what is.
