It is a "treat" that is rarely refused so has uses in getting picky fish to eat. But nutritionally, it just isn't worth much in "larger" sizes. So, treat once in awhile...but if used as a more regular diet, it needs to be "fortified" with things like selcon, zoe, etc. I would not consider it "required" for most fish at all (excepting seahorses and perhaps a few others).
