Bristle worm pic

Just wanted to show some of the new people what they get to look forward to in thier reefs if they are just starting out. Caught this guy with lights on between 4 and 5 pm today. He must have been 8 inches long and still coming out of the rock.

Hey Thomas,
Is this a bad thing? I saw something similar last night after the lights went out. It looked skinnier and light tanish. It didn't like the light from the flash light. I was looking around since I've had some shrimp come up missing in the mornings.

No not bad, the normally do not like the light, they will help keep the sandbed clean, eating the fish waste, uneaten food, mine however is about the size that I might want to think about getting rid of him. Sammystingray once posted a pic about another guy that had one that was, oh I don't know, three feet long or something like that. Now if you had a dead shrmip I'm sure they would come out to feast on them but they don't go hunting to kill them.

Holy crap! will that thing like sneak out at night and get in my bed while I'm sleeping? Argh! Even worse it won't like try to crawl in my mouth or sumpn will it? Dammit, just one more thing to worry about.

I know wrasses like to munch on the smaller ones.

Another reason I love my sixline Although, I do keep a seperate refugium to breed (among other things) bristles to keep the supply up in the main tank.

Do coral banded shrimp normally eat them? Or was yours the exception to the rule?

CBS will definatly eat them, probably won't get them all, but most. I'd say they will eat them most of the time, they don't normally pass up a meal.

So in short no CBS in the tank when doing a DSB because they will eat good critters, right? Anything else that should not be in there?

Beautiful creature. If you can catch a pic from directly in front or directly behind you might be able to catch the incredible irridescence of that worm. I think that's a spectacular sight.
