bristleworms

Any thoughts on catching/trapping them? I've lost a couple sand sifter gobies and lyretail anthias. Moved some rock around and found 2 about 2-3 inches long. I know there are more. Anyone have a way of catching?

yeah,, i have to agree with alix. i have some HUGE bristleworms (like 6in long) and they dont kill anything in my tank,,,do your fish have burns/scars on them?? and are they red or brown worms (if red they could be fireworms and those have a better chance of killing your fish)

wish I had more bristleworms. I would overfeed to increase my population, but my arrow crab has taken me to 0 as far as I can tell.

Like everyone else has said they didnt eat the fish.. They were just cleaning up the mess...
Although... if you do want to get rid of them.. here is a great effective method..
Take some pantyhose.. Put some frozen food down in it with something else to weigh it, the worms will be trying to get the food from the outside and the bristles will get suck in the hose..

Let's address the real issue here. Please post your readings for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, PH, SG, and temp. How long has this tank been running? What all is in it? Did you notice any odd behaviors in the fish prior to death?
As everyone has said, the worms were just cleaning up.

They will perish if unable to eat.

Very correct
I would ghost feed the tank, personally. I like bristle worms in the tank. They take care of themselves and clean up things that you would not be able to siphon. They get into crevices that you cannot. The are good to have IMO.

Are you planning to get fish or is this just going to be a coral tank? Do you have any corals that you have to feed?

Ok which is it?...I gotta know where you stand in regards to the bristles...says alot about ones character...

Just jokes. However, you won't really be able to keep tabs on the population. They really produce...or die...relative to the amount of food in the tank...I guess it may be possible, but if you are able to fine tune your feeding habits to that degree...we are back to a character issue
.

Ok, back on the original subject lol The worms are more red in color than brown. There was no apparent scsrring on the gobie, but a blenny that I've had for about 3 months does have some scars on one side. My tank has been running for 3 years or so and numbers are stable at
1.025
0-10 nitrates
410 calc.
8.2 alk
1325 mag
zero amonia
trace phoshate
I have an arrow crab, 8-10 hermits, turbos and asterea as clen up crew
2 yellow,one purple tang,bi-color blenny,longnose hawk,heni,scooter blenny,one lryetail female, 130g DT 65g sump.
If not worms what killed fish?

You can buy a bristle worm trap, it's about a half-inch tube with an inverse funnel at each end, comes with a lure to put inside. Don't know how well they work.

What type of tank are you maintaining? Make sure of your worm identification not all bristle worms or good and not all are bad ?
