These basically have the same effect as running the water through a carbon hang-on filter. I'd advise against it, personally.

It's only slightly better than tap water so it depends on how good your tap water is. I would worry about Copper, Tin, Zinc, Nitrates, Silicates, and Phosphates.

personally i would buy an ro unit. it has a more expensive initial cost, but it will filter more water better than a brita filter per dollar.

we have a "water purifier" on our fridge. it claims clean, pure, water.
the tds going in is 251. the tds going out is 251.
and this thing tells us, by a stupid light, to change the filter every 3 months. what a money maker for kenmore.

brita water filters are for taste thats about it. they remove chlorine and chloramine and basically the filter done other than maybe some larger particules that might be floating in the water.
I dont even use it for drinking anymore I use my RO unit at the DI bypass so i get good clean monitorable water. heck I got to monitor for the tank anyway why not for my and my pets LOL

would hook the Ro part of the unit up to it and be done with it instead of buying new filter cartridges alot cheaper to LOL

i had to use some water out of the fridge this past week do to the fact of the floods we had and i couldnt get to where i usually get my water. i stood there with a glass and a 5gal bucket and filled it up i only used around 2 gallons of it after mixed and warmed up but i have learned my first lesson on how important water quality is! sure the water taste alot better then tap water but those filters dont take everything out! with in a day or 2 i had a cynao (how ever ya spell it) break out in the tank it sure didnt take long! but important lesson learned! and have it all back under controll now!
