brittle star babies???

I have a monster brittle, about a foot across in a 55 gal. i have read that some starfish split to produce new . my question is...do brittles have little ones and not split? i noticed this morning a tiny little star that looks just like a brittle..1/4 in size crawling across a rock in my tank. the only thing is it is white. it has the arms of a brittle, the center, everything. but just really REALLY tiny.

thats a diff. species of brittle, i bought 5 of the smal kind about 2 weeks ago, now i have 20+ of them!
