Brittle Star in hiding

I bought a black brittle star about a month ago. Since putting him in he went missing. I tought he died. I couldn't find him until last night when i saw him hiding under some LR. I constantly have been looking at night and never seem to see him out. My question is how am I supposed to feed him if I can't even get to him under the LR? Thanks for the help!

I have a green and black brittle star, my green comes out, more aggressive or not shy, my black brittle hides and sleeps in the rocks (i'm guessing).
I've noticed mine coming out when she's hungry - she'll come out if she's hungry. when they smell food (mysis, brine) yes, like AirForce says, shell swing her arms out.
I was thought just as you did, but I found my star waving its arms out between the tiniest spot on my rocks!! See pic! :jumping:

Mine does the same thing. Try a small piece of fresh raw shrimp and watch them come running. It's actually very cool to watch.

i like my black brittle stars and the do smell it when you put food in the tank you dont have to worry about feeding them they are scavengers they will find what the others leave behind. i have had three for over a year and they are very healthy and active.
