never heard of that.. where did you hear that?
The only reason I could think of is for a tang to eat it? I dont know if they'd take brocolli or not..

I have tried broccoli a few times just to see if I had any takers... My Foxface, yellow tang, and lemonpeel all ignored it. none of my crabs really cared for it either... Good Luck

I've had luck with brocoli. Although that was years ago. I haven't used it in a long time since there are really good foods available now.
If you do feed brocoli, freeze it first. That way the cellulose (sp?) will be broken down and they will feed on it more readily.

I put the broccoli in the microwave with a little water for about 30 seconds. Soak it in vitamins and feed it to the tangs. They eat it down to the core. Has worked for me.

I noticed it in the tanks at the zoo when I went to it. And I was just wondering if there are any benefits in feeding it to your fish.

Broccoli's vitamin content is supposed to help prevent the onset of Head and Lateral Line Erosion (HLLE), but HLLE is one of those conditions that's still not fully understood, so it may be cooincidental.
IMO, if it's not food that the fish would find and eat in his natural habitat, then you shouldn't feed it to him with any regularity.
The only fish that will really eat it are Tangs, and there's a far better and cheaper food to feed them, Nori.

I agree but also diagree. Us human take thing we would not find in the wild and use them (medicines) If it seems to help the fish with no major side effects, go for it.

I liked the idea of "nuking" the brocolli... I always tried it raw, not sure why I didn't think of that  I will have to give that a try. As for other cheap treats I put regular old lettuce in for my veggie loving friends. I usually put in a leaf or two once or twice a week and they munch it down...

My grazers always seemed to like spinach, which is very high in vitamins.
Most lettuce doesn't have a whole lot of vitamins, mostly just water and cellulous (sp?)

Thanks Ray

I have about 2 to 3 inches of live sand (depending on where in the tank) and I set up different areas of the tank w small shells and larger crushed shells. I got it from the LFS. everyone seems to like it (inhabitants)
