I don't know what the heck is wrong. I had a topfin 30 that went out yesterday. Then I went over to the LFS and bought a BIO-Wheel 150. It worked for about 1 hr then just died. It dosen't make any noise, just dead. I took to back the the LFS and they replaced it and gave me a rant about how they never had one of these come back broken, blah blah blah. Then they showed me how the correctly install it. Which I did. And went on with my day. Went home set it up, and presto!! Everything working great. Then Just 5 mins ago, it went out. Took it out cleaned it, rinsed it, blasted water through it and nothing. Anybody know why this might happen?? Is it something i'm doing wrong?? Something in my tank?? And how long will my fish be ok??
2 false percs, diamond back, bicolor psuedochromis.
20-30 lbs of live rock
10lbs bacteria sand
20lbs base sand
I need some serious help, i'm really stressing :needhelp:

um.. im gonna take some wild guesses....
-do you have a cloudy tank due to sand strom??? maybe it's eating um the magnet and shaft on the pump
- not too shure how your filter work but the ones i seen has a 'u' tube thing and half is in the filter itself and half hangs inside the tank.. u have to fill the chamber inside and outside with water then start the pump... maybe u have a air pocket when u filled it.. and when u started to pump and work but once the 'air pocket reaches the impellar itself.. the pump runs dry and your burnning out the pump??...
hum.. i dont really know what els.. cuzz i dont know how it's hooked up or how your tank is set up like..

I agree, I have seen people blow power supplies in computers over and over by using a bad plug without a decent surge protector on it.

I have a 2 outlet thingy on the wall. I put in a converter to make it 6 outlets. I have everything hooked up to it. 2ph, 65w fixture, moonlights, and heater. Never had a problem.

Are you using the same leg everytime on the 6 outlet extension? I am betting you have one bad outlet on your 6 prong. Your problem lies in the electrical outlets somewhere. There is no way a typical tank set up will burn out three filters , unless you are running them dry for an extended period of time and even then, It would take a bit.

Turns out it was the filter that was the problem. I guess the sand my goby kicks up every now and then got in the filter and I guess got stuck and blew the motor. I traded it in for a aqua clear and everythings great now

Thanks for all your help and suggestions
