Brooklynella

How the H do fish get brooklynella in the first place. It looks like thats what my clowns have (white mucous around head) and one of them died over night. When I looked at him before I went to bed he was really covered in the white stuff and I woke up this morning to him laying dead on the bottom of the q-tank. Argh! I can't get a fish without a disease apparently. Would they have contracted this at the LFS? If so how long would I have to wait to buy new ones at a different local fish store. I read Terry B's post which said it doesnt matter with Brooklynella because there needs to be an infected fish in the tank to spread to another fish. Let me know I'm almost turned off of keeping fish again.
