question: if the overflow doesnt have the little intake like the CPR's do, to hook a power head in a blow out any excess air that gets in there...
and air builds up and stops the gravity pull...(does this happen)
what if it happens and im gone. flood!

I assume the little intake is only open while you are filling the "U tube" (to get rid of the air). With a regular U-tube you use a piece of airline and suck the air out yourself (and mostly get a good taste of your tank's water quality).
I would think that all U-tubes (includ. CPR) can collect air if the flow thru the tube is not strong enough. That is the trick, make sure you have enough current for the tiny air bubbles to be pushed completely thru the tube. If not, you will break the siphon.

i decided an 18 gal tall fit better under my tank. so thats going to be the sump
had to take out the shelf though. :/
