I have had brown algae growing on my sand and green on my glass. If I clean it it comes right back with in 2 days I can almost watch it grow.
I researched the site, put a Phosphates pad and bag in my canister, I have been using the tetra water treatment and I just bought a new GLO t5 fixture with one blue and a power bulb about 2 weeks ago any Ideas on something else I can try. My tank is a 75 with on dogface puffer in it.
Thanks so much
Nino

That sounds like diatoms. What water are using, and how long has your tank been set up?
You're going to get green algae on the glass, and probably other types as well. It is not unusual to have clean glass daily using a magnet scrapper, or hand scraper, etc.

I assume this means you're using tap water?
If so, I would test it for nitrates and phosphates. Beth's right, algae is normal, but if you have 'stuff' in your water, it could be exacerbating the problem.

I am using tap water with the tetra added in. My tank has been set up for 6 months. Should I change to buying a different water like r.o. The brown algae is growing faster then I can clean it lol. My lfs tested for phosphates and it was a trace but they said not much.
Thanks for the help

Tab water may have nitrates and even silica, which will cause these orginaisms to proliferate. Does your tank have live rock?

Yes it does not much however I pulled it and put it in my QT tank to help cycle it so as of now it does not

Change to RO/DI water. Once the LR goes in, that will help as well.
