brown algae

how do we get rid of the brown algae on bottom of tank? i know we should switch from using tap water.

If this is a new tank, it could be diatoms. If so, add a cleanup crew if you havent already. Fighting conch, nass. snails and cerith snails seem to work with the sand bed a little better than other snails. With the water, yes switch before other algeas start that are harder to maintain. If an ro/di unit is out of the question (like for myself) you could try asking your LFS if they will let you fill your containers (mine will for free) or go to walmart and buy their brand distilled water for now, I have been doing both for a few years. HTH

wow clark that must be dookie haveing to get out of your house to get water to chang out of tank.. and y cant u get a ro/di filter??? i dont and cant c why n e 1 with runign water cant...

thanks for your help, we only have the snails eating the algae on glass but not on bottom, going to LFS to see what they have. also going to check out wal mart re: water.

i get rodi water from my lfs for 49 cents a gallon

being new at this what is rodi water? bought some distilled water from wal mart today, 56 cents a gallon.

RO/DI= Reverse Osmosis Deionized ...The best to have.
RO= Reverse Osmosis ....Second best
Distilled water .....Third best
