brown algae

I am having a brakeout of brown algae ont he sand and on the glass. The tank has been set ups since christmas. Do you guys think it is just going thur a tank cycle. or is there a problem. my corals dont seem to be affected. ph level is at 8.4 and salt 1.023
any help would be great

Sounds like Diatoms it just looks nasty doesnt really hurt anything though. Keep an eye on nitrate and phosphate levels and let your clean up crew handle the sand and just scrape the glass. Carrie

What are your other levels - Amm, Trites, Trates, Phos...ect...What kind of lights? Are they new, old? Any changes latley??

Is there anyway to get rid of it?

Some tap might be ok and some might be high in TDS etc. I would not use it.
