brown algae?

About 2 weeks ago I purchased a Coralife Aqua Light w/Lunar pea lights. I really like the light but I'm getting quite a bit of brown algae. Is this normal?

what light where you using before and is the coralife aqua light new or used?
if it is used you probably need to replace the bulbs.
sometimes upgrading light will promote an algae bloom
what type of water are you using?

The light I used to have was the junk I bought with the set a year ago. It was actually made for a FW tank. The Coralife is new from Marine Depot and the water is RO by the gallon at Wall Mart. Does it usually go away?

it should clear up on its own. friend had same problem when he upgraded from standard flourescents to power compacts.

Cool. Is there anything to send it on its way sooner other than chemicals?

just time and a good clean up crew. give the glass a quick wipe down everyday.

never a good idea to randomly start using chemicals for a quick fix.

How long should it take for brown algae to go away after upgrading lighting?

not too long, but be prepared for green hair alge to follow shorty thereafter.
