when my tank was new I started getting brown algae all over everything, glass, sand rock, my rock came from a cycled tank; about 60lbs in a 125 plus about 30lbs of skeleton coral. I put purple up in the tank and the brown algae stopped; i started getting purple and green. the green is growing like grass. my crabs seem to like it. But I found if I dose the taNk daily w/ purple up im getting this RED algae growing on the sand. The red patch seems to be getting biggerbut I have green grass growing up in the middle of it The red looks cool but im thinking its not goin to be purple(is that bad). ph good, trites and trates seem to be 0. wheres the red coming from? what else can I put in there to sandsift besides the crabs? only half the tank is covered so no jumpers

# 1 If you dose yor tank with purple up...are you doing the water tests? Calcium climbs with purple up. Never dose what you don't have a test for.
# 2 The "grass" sounds like hair algea, this is not good...your crabs try and keep it down but it will be a losing battle. You have to figure out what caused te hair algae and control it's growth.
#3 It sounds like you have cyano...does the red algae come up like a blanket in a solid sheet?
If the red is hard like a rock it is coraline, which I doubt you have, since it is growing up on the hair algae. Answer the above questions and we can go from there to get things back on track if need be.

Ive gotten some help and it is cyano. I need water flow I htink and any more help i can get

Check (test) for phosphates...don't overfeed, do small water changes and increase the flow of the tank...to check for dead spots...use a stick with a piece of string attached..if the string goes limp that area needs more flow.
You have a new tank...this kind of stuff happens, it is part of the prosess so don't be discouragd
