Brown alge

Lighting will not cause algae... nutrients in the water will. If you tank is new it’s normal to go through different stages of algae blooms. What are the water’s parameters? How long has it been set up? What’s in it and what kind of cleaners do you have?

If by brown algae you mean diatoms, I have never seen a tank that didn't get them when first set up. I have a tank that has been set up for 6 years. It is completely clean with no algae at all thanks to my snails. I just added a small piece of dead coral that I had laying around and it is the only piece in the tank that has turned brown. As far as I know, there is nothing you can do about it. It will come and then go away on its own.
