hello everyone-- is there any new trick additives out there to remove and prevent brown algea? i am fighting the phosphates with a new takn set up--
i used Phosphate Control by Blue Life- and it did not do much- now i have enough Phosguard in the sump for 300 gallons -- and my tank is only 135 gallons-- Phophates are holding at 2 to 3 ppm-- just cleaned the tank-- and would like to try something else--
info you need--
12 damsels getting fed 2 frozen cubes of Brine Shrimp Plus - by Ocean Nutrition -- once a day-- they eat it all-- nothing left after feeding--
tank is 135 gal with 2 to 3 inches of crushed coral and live sand- dead rock and plastic plants- tank is littered with dead shells and pieces of dead coral--
new system-- only been running for 2 weeks-- everything is clean--
i did use tap water for tank filling-- i will use an RO system from now on --
Phosphates were off the chart at start up--
what did i do ?????? i want the tank to stay looking clean-- no algea growth at all---

im gonna guess here and say your tank hasnt fully cycled yet, and you shouldnt even have fish in it yet, but, thats just me hazzarding a guess here.

having to much phosphate remover won't do harm, it's most likely diatom, with time it will go away once the cycle is over. Your tank has only been set up two weeks.
some other tips to control algae
watch feeding, thaw out the cubes before feeding.
watch light schedule, if it's fish only 8 hours is enough, get a timer and hook it up to the lights that way it's the same every day.
continue using ro water
put some cheato in your sump with a light
others can help you a lot more, that's all i can think of right now
watch the crushed coral, can be a nitrate harbor er

i put Damsels in for awhile to see if it is going to cycle again-- system was up and running for 8 years-- just started over and the cleaning i did might have killed the biologic filter --
what do they add to some of the trick tanks you see in doctors offices and restaurants-- some sort of chemical -- i used to know what it was called-- just can not remember-- i know it was not harmful to Fish Only systems--
anybody know???
PH- is 8.3
Nitrites - 0
Ammonia-- 0
nitrates 10 ppm
Temp- 76
lighting - 8 hours-- florescent bulbs only
what is cheato?? that is new to me-- and what kind of light--

i found the stuff i was looking for -- it works immediately-- no more algae even going thru the startup cycle
it is called
ALGAEFIX marine aquarium algaecide
made by API
works great-- it is the same stuff i guy told me to use with my old set up-- it is just under a different name now--
going to set up a fug -- plan on keeping it very clean so it does not go sexual and turn everything green--
