i went over to my friends house and looked in their tank and saw that they had brown algea like stuff floating on the water. does anyone know anything about this? do they need more filtration? it is a 55g with a fluval 304. i checked the levels and they are all fine. there is a lot of algea growing on the LR and glass. they have NO snails and only minimal crabs. i am helping them get thier tank going and am just wondering what to do to get it cleaned up quickly. thanks!

I just now started growing dark brown algae on my LS, corraline algae is growing on the LR and glass. From what I have read on this sight, turbos snails and hermit crabs can really help eat away at this. I see they have a "Janitors package" on this website as well. Might want to look at that.

If the tank is ready, then a better clean up crew should help with the algea on the glass and rock. Do you mean that brown algea is floating on the water "surface"? Never heard of it, but wanted to clarify.
