A little brown like diatoms? If so you need to find the source of the problem. Phosphates in your makeup water or silicates. Do you have a clean up crew? If so that will help a little. You could also cut back on your light to keep them from forming.

Yes, can and will happen from over feeding. I know that I over feed but I have a clean up crew to combat my over feeding. Cut back on feeding and see if it clears up then you will know if it is done to overfeeding or some other problem. Some people even say your fish can go without food for days at a time. I don't like doing this because I like to eat everyday and I figured my fish do to.

Mine went from white to brown when diatoms formed during cycling leaving the lights off a few extra hours for about a week seemed to help, but I had a pretty big outbreak and it hasn't totally cleared up, so I can't tell you exactly how to fix the unsightly problem but I'm pretty sure it's not totally out of the ordinary.

My tank has also done the same thing. and I still can not find out what has cause the bloom to go so big, or what can treat it.
all my cc and lv is all brown and no longer white at all.
If you find out what may have caused the outbreak would you please let me know
I have apost woth some replies on it also. do a search for msg by me.
Im waiting to see if other can help me out also.
Good luck

Well thats what cc does. Thats also why it is NOT recomended because a clean up crew cannot service it as they can live sand.

ok say i got live sand for a replacement.
can the crushed coral be changed out for the LS with out much of a tank problem.
I know that LS starts its process pretty quick and most fish can go right in.
but what about the fish in the tank at this time. any ideas or thought about swapping out the CC for LS

sorry for the incorrect replt i posted to the wrong list.
but not really. I have been told that CC, that is what it does turn brown and hard to clean by a few people today.
the cc make it hard for the cleaning crew to do there job , unlike if it was LS.
So I posted the last post abouit changing out the cc for LS
