brown diatom algae

I very new to this forum and hobby. I have a few questions and hope you can point me to the right direction.
I just set up my 55g tank for about 3 weeks.
Seaclone protein skimmer
Fluval 304 filters
about 55 lbs of live rocks, haven't add any corals
48" Oddysea light (2x65w anticts and two 12K) Good only on soft corals.
After three weeks I realized some brown diatom algae on the glass in the tank looking from a different angles and there are also brown algea fouling my sands.
This is normal? What should i do to remove all of these?

Hello and welcome to the forum....Sounds like you got to the dreaded diatom bloom stage....Is your tank done cycling? If so, time to add your clean up crew. If not, just cont normal maintenance, water changes, etc. until your done cycling, then add your snails, etc...the algae is part of the beginning process..

If your tank is done cycling...hermit crabs LOVE the brown algae, they will clean it right up.
WELCOME to the site.

How do you find out if a tank is complet cycling?
Umm...Ok, you stated that your tank has been up for 3 weeks...no coral...only rock...have you been testing your water for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates?? Have you added any fish or inverts?? Your cycle is complete when your ammonia and nitrite levels are zero. Nitrate will be present because it is the end result from the good bacteria converting ammonia to nitrite, and then to nitrate. How about you give us more info on your parameters?

I just tested my water today. Everything seem normal.
ammonia is at less than 0.25 on the color scale
Ph range is round 7.8 or 8
Nitrite NO2 is almost light blue 0 ppm
Nitrate at or round 5 or 6 on the color scale.
I have about 50 pounds of live rocks and couple of Damshels I introduced last week to test the water and they are still swimming.
. There are a coupe small mushroom came with the rocks, they open when light is present and close or shrink when I change the light. I also have a weird looking star fish that was original came with the rocks. It crawling around the tank since i introduce live rocks about 3 weeks ago.
The antinic light I usually keep them on for a short period in the morning and evening. However, 2x67K bulbs, I am keeping them on for around 8/9 hours a day. I think the heat from the light might have triggered the algeas. I just reduced the 2x67K to 4 hours starting tomorrow.

The ammonia should not be detectable at all. The PH should be around 8.2 to 8.4 and your nitrates are a little high. Your cycle doesnt seem to be complete yet!
