How do I get rid of it? Don't say get Snails or Hermit Crabs, or even a Goby, because I'm getting a Mandarin Dragonet / Goby in there and they will fight.

What kind of Sand Sifters? Sand Sifting Starfish? Current flow is around 1000 for a 55g. I feed a cube a day (half in the morning, half at night). I have 1 Big Gold-Striped Maroon Clownfish, 2 Small Blue-Fin Damsels, 1 Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp, 1 LTA, 1 Brittle Starfish, 15 Hermits, 5 Turbo Snails, 4 Nassarius Snails, Corals. I run all lights for 8 hrs., then just the Actinics for 1 hr., and then they go off.

I would say right off the bat, less light. As much as your corals can take. And you may need to turkey baster some of that out manually. That is out of control. I was just on your other thread about a fish you wanted to get and now you're saying you're going to get a mandarin. Those a delicate creatures. IMO, Keep your head off of stocking and keep focused on the problem you have going on here. Once you get this taken care of, then stocking. Now... That being said:
I would try a but more flow. I would go to an LFS that sells Chemipure, and are you using tap water? If so. Stop it. I don't know that you should be adding any more creatures right now, like hermits or anything... That's just what I would do. Try sucking it out and a gravel vac or a turkey baster.

More flow along the sandbed, less light and a LOT more Nassarius snails. 4 of them wont accomplish much of anything..

IMO 8 hours of light doesn't seem like too much. Increase the flow a little bit. Watch the food particles when you're feeding, are there particles settling on the bottom?

On my 55g I used to run my daylights only for 6 hours and the actinics for 8. Definitely get more snails, for the 55 I used to have 40+ nass snails, over 30 hermits and 4 turbo snails. My sandbed was always nice and white.
Try leaving the lights off for a day and just reduce the light time for a couple of days until you get it under control. Manually blast the sandbed a little bit.
The goby that Meowzer mentioned, along with some other gobies would get along with the mandarin. I have a diamond goby and a pair of mandarins in my 125 and the goby never bothers my mandarins. Gobies do a great job sifting through sand

are you toping your water off from tap water? or you filling it with RO water? if not ro i would think about getting a ro filter tap water usually has a ton of phasphates (sp?) in it that algea feed off of.

I went through this before , make sure you feed less I was doing the same as you did 2 times a day. Only 1 is ok. Get more water flow , chill out on lights for awhile, just cut back a little to slow the growth down, All will survive with less light. Also do some small water changes maybe 5 gal every few days ( make sure when shipon water out get some of that crappy dirt off the top ).keep eye on all parimiters as you go . good luck . lets us know what happens.

1, that is just a list...I don't plan to get the Mandarin for like 2-3 months. It will be the last fish in the tank. My head isn't in stocking? So, if I make a list I am going to get all of the fish right now? No. I just started topping off with RO water since my last water change. Thanks.

Ya, I guess a little bit does. Maybe I should feed 1/4 in the morning and 1/4 at night?

I just started buying RO water on my last water change. I plan on getting an RO unit soon. Do you think an RO unit not made for aquariums will be ok, like a Kenmore or something?

I think RO water...is RO water...A lot of people buy units for their homes and use those...
You know diatoms are normal to new aquariums...You do need to rid the phosphates though..that is usually cause by too much nutrients...I would feed 1x a day....get the sand shifters/stirrers (conch) and add some flow and just wait it out
