brown spots. . .

got brown spots that have started appearing on the glass of my aquarium. is this algea or some type of disease? and how do i need to treat this.

Diatom blooms. Just wipe it off.

I'm fairly new to this, and I got the same spots. I don't have too many but I'm afraid I might get more. What causes this diatom blooms anyway? Is it bad for my fish?

It is just a part of aquaria fauna. In fact, it is a food source for many snails. It commonly blooms in newly set up tanks. It is actually micro crustacean colonies, and not really "algae". Silica in the tank [from sand] is a food source...which is why you see it really reach plague proportions in a new tank.
