Hello!! There appears to be brown stuff on the sand of my tank. Is it bad? How do i get rid of it? I have 4 snails but they don't seem to care for it.

Hi, Diatoms...it happens to all new tanks, as a rule it goes away on it's own. You need lots more than 4 snails, and not all snails like the same thing. In a 30g tank I had 65 snails of different types. In my 56g I have over 100 and I lost count on how many are in the 90g
Turbos
Nassarius
Cerith
Margarita
Astera
Make sure you have plenty of circulation too, the wave is the life of the ocean.

Okey dokey!
Thank you Flower!! OOhh do u know of any online trustworthy websites where i can purchase the snails? They are much cheaper there then going to a fish shop. For the water circulation I only have one power head 100 MAX GPH for the now. In 2 weeks im going to buy another one, because I've been told its better to have 2 small power heads facing different directions then one strong one facing one direction.

How old is your tank, or how new? What powerhead do you have? What size tank?

I've had it for only about 2 months and a half now. For my power head it is a 100 MAX GPH. I have a 20 gallon tank.

This devastatingly handsome poster created an article about this a few years ago. https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/a/diatom-algae
If you want to learn more. He was 14 when he wrote it though so excuse the poor grammar and whatnot.
