hello everyone. I just bought a small (5-6") bamboo shark yesterday. He hid in the lr caves for most of the day, then came out at night. My question is, the guy I bought him from told me to feed the shark mysis shrimp (a freshwater type thing that are a little bigger than brine shrimp) I attempted to feed him this, and there is no way to get the food to him because it floats and it breaks into small pieces when it hits the water. I also tried to feed him a small piece of krill with no luck. Does anyone have and idea or method? I dont think there is a problem yet because it hasnt been a day yet, but he looks to have aclimated fine by this morning. Please get back to me with any tips you may have. Thanks

well you probably should have made sure that it was feeding first at the LFS before purchasing; usually LFS will hold a fish if they are sure you are seriously interested in purchasing; you may need to get a fairly large syringe of some type or maybe large turkey baster, but will probably have to make the hole a little larger depending on food particle size; you could try pieces of sqid/octopus and ghost shrimp perhaps to stimulate it; then ween it w/ a mixture of other foods

I agree with the suggestions above on the types of food, but have somthing to add. What I did to feed my shark, was bought a 3 ft long 1/4" diameter stick of acrylic. I then sharpened one end, and filed little barbs in it to hold the food. It works great, I can harpoon any food I wish with it, and the shark (and eel) pays no attention to the stick. I prefered this material over the rigid air line tube because its solid. Just my .02 :)

I agree with novice about the stick and it being solid. The airline tube in the long run is bound for destuction.I personally don't have a huge predator tank(my'n is only a 100 gal)but I work for the aqurium of Amaericas every summer in New Orleans. And they to use a stick on large predators.

I had one a year ago and with the move I gave it ti a shop. Mine ate squid. He loved it.
You may want to wait a day or two. The change has shocked the shark a bit.
They are quite passive. Mine sat in the dark most of the time.

Try squid. The one I have, I hatched from an egg. He ate from the get go. Now when he smells food in the water, he comes up and eats out of my hand.

When I got my bamboo it only took 1 day for it to start eating. I gave it earthworms at firdt and now it'll eat anything meaty.

Hey, just make sure you mix it up w/ fresh seafood. Shrimp or squid.

If you got it to eat the frozen food then pick up some of the frozen shark formula. It is made by the same manufacturer as formula 1 (Ocean Nutrition). I use this as the staple for my whitespotted.
