Bryopis Problem

Alright I have been fighting bryopis in 55g reeft tank for about 10 months now.
I am thinking about doing what Kogle did to his tank. https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/317556/tore-down-my-180-last-night
I will then get some more live rock to seed the base rock. Also if i bleach my sand to and get another bag of LS to seed it. Is that alright? I will store my fish in a 10g tank.
If you have any other ideas of doing this please tell me.
My livestock:
Pair of Clarkki Clownfish
Sixline Wrasse
40-60 Turbo Snails
Banded Coral Shrimp
Leather
HOB Refugium full of Caulerpa
I feed once every 2-3 days.

Before you tear your tank apart you could try this.Increase your magnesium levels up into the 1500-1600ppm range.
I have not tried this myself because i never have had to,but Ive read other peoples experience with it and it seems to have worked for them .
Good Luck

Its never necessary to do this but it obviously works just make sure you rinse well. Im fighting bryopsis right now as well my method is taking it all out manually and letting chaeto eat the resulting po4. I find my dkh drops crazy fast about 3 per day due to the dying algae so keeping that up helps.

Have you tried a lettuce Nudi or 2? They are the only creatures that eat it, and they do eat it. Just a thought....

aww man, really nasty algae. Sorry it had to happen to you.
Here's a few tips -
First, do a few water changes, pull out as much as you can by hand. It will come back. Then, add some phosphate and nitrate removing media. You will want to increase your protein skimming power - at least pull out more wet skim.
Then, once you've done all of the usual routes, and you have as much out as you can, then start dosing magnesium. Measure it to about 1600ppm. Make sure you have a test kit. The algae should just start melting away.
After it's melted away... about a week or so... you should do several large water changes. Make sure you get a lettuce nudibranch to back it up and keep that phosphate removal media in your tank for a little while.
Something else that helps is changing your light bulbs... Anyways, just my thoughts.

Man I'm so glad my 180 was restarted with base rock and base sand. All seeded with a 16 ounce cup of LS from a very trusted friend.
I want to caution you that raising your mg levels can cure this but if even one spore is left alive in the tank it will come back just as bad as it was in the first place. I know a guy who kept him mg at 1800 for 4 months until he was sure all the bryopsis was gone. Heck it even killed all of his SPS corals. As soon as his mg levels dropped back down to the 1500 range it came back.
He did eventually find an algaecide (sp) that worked but it's expensive and hard to find. Let me jump on my other frequented forum and see if he's lurking. I'll try and get the name for you.

I agree I had this stuff, and the nudis ate all of it.

I am now probaly not going to bleach the rock. I want to do it the natural way. How many lettuce nudibrachs do you suggest I get for my 55g? I am probaly going to start doing a water change every other day for a couple weeks and pull out as much as possible.

Also what do you suggest I try first. The nudis or the magnesium.
I think the problem with the nudis is that once the algae is gone they will starve.I would try the MAG first. However if you could find nudis at your LFS and they will let you return them for cash or a trade in i would do both.

Alright I am going to go get the magnesium today. I remember seeing on a different forum about only using a certain kind of magnesium and I cant remember what it was. Do you guys know which kind it was? Second what is the best test kit for magnesium?
Thanks for the help!
