bubble algae

Hi I am new to sw tanks and I have been reading on here about bubble algae I have since found one small bubble that was green and looked what I was seeing on here. I went to take it out of the tank and when I got it to the top of the tank it popped I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what I might expect or if it will cause more problems.

I believe by the algae popping, all of the "spores" are released into the tank. I would be prepared to see a few more.

thanks I was afraid of that not going to be a good day after the bubble algae pop then my canister filter started leaking like some one just put a hole in it and I can't seem to find a reason for that have tried everything lfs suggested nothing everytime I put it back together still leaking. I have only had it for 2 months so I don't know what could be the problem. Oh well just my luck for the day.

yeah the spores will be released, but it may not be enough to reproduce others.
keep an eye open.
about your filter;
where is it leaking from?
does it have a hole in the canister?

If the bubble algae does manage to propagate, get an emerald crab - they love the things, for lunch, dinner, and a late night snack.

My filter is leaking from around the handles took it back to the lfs where I bought and the guy said it was missisng a part and that I must have lost some sort of rubber flap that goes over the primer hole I told him there was never a flap there and he basicly told me I was lying that there had to be or it would have been leaking all along so who knows he is suppose to be looking for a new flap for me next week when he goes to st.louis to pick up some other stuff. he had me try and cover the area where he said the flap should go and try it but that seemed to just make it leak worse. so i just put a back up filter on that hangs on the back of my tank and readjusted my power heads to try to make sure the water is flowing good.

I have dealt with bubble aglae off and on for many years. The only natural predator to the stuff that worked well for me was a desjardini sailfin tang. I have purchased two of them for two seperate systems with bublle algae issues and both times they have worked great. It must be a "desjardini" sailfin not the more common version.

Otherwise known as a Red Sea Sailfin Tang Zebrasoma desjardinii. Of course they need a large tank.
Emerald crabs have always worked well for me. I keep emerald crabs, peppermint shrimp, and a sixline wrasse in every reef tank I have (except my nano) for nuisance invertebrate control.
