most likely it will go away with a molt, but i've read about a parasite that attaches itself to shrimp and stays on through the molt. i can't remember where i read it though :( any way to post a picture or to see if it a seperate organism living on the shrimp?

We bought some shrimp recently and added them to our 90 gallon. I noticed this same condition you are talking about on one of ours, he died soon after.

One of my peppermints has that on its side too. It has molted at least once if not twice and has been in the tank for about 2 months.
Not only that, the pair have actually laid eggs twice. The eggs hatched both times and the babies were sucked into the filter as well as eaten by the other inhabitants.
The bubble does not appear to harm the shrimp at this point, but it is considerably smaller than its mate (the one that holds the eggs) I dont know if this is a difference of sexes or what.

the female shrimp are larger shrimp in most species.
The bulge can be lots of different things though I can say that I have seen one like that. most of all outer shell problems are fixed at the molt from missing legs to dents and cracks. I would just keep an eye on it and see what happens. there is nothing that you can do to help fix this other than keep the levels as stable as possible.
