So the just put the bag over the sump input lines? Is that supposed to just capture all the air bubbles and what they finally release somewhere?
Pretty much, the bags for the most part come with a frame that holds them open. And the way I've seen them installed is that they are hanging from the top of the sump with half the bag above the water line. And the hose flows into the bag. I'm trying to look for some pictures of the few I've seen on here. but haven't had any luck.

So i guess the theory is that the air bubbles are too big to pass through the filter and if it is half out of the water they can escape into the air...this makes sense in theory...won't it also catch everything else as well? This won't catch things that the skimmer is meant to catch right?

Basically yes, it forces the bubbles to pop. Yes it will catch alot of other stuff. The downside is having to change them a couple times a week.
I've seen people argue that it makes the skimmer less effective. But if it gets pulled out of the water collumn by the skimmer or a filter bag, who cares?

Now when you say change them, do you simply mean to clean them off? I am not sure I want to solve my bubble issue by having to change two filters twice a week and constantly have to buy new ones...

They are washable. I personally am going to use them on my fuge, once I move the tank and try a higher flow pump. I am just waiting on my job, may be transfered in the next few months. But I should find out this month. I still can't find that thread where were talking about them and had several pictures. Before and after. That is what sold me.
Most people I've seen use 2 sets, one is in the sump, one they run through the wash.

PM me with the site where I can buy the ones you are talking about or at least see them. What size are you suggesting?

I've purchased mine from an LFS. And purchased the ones with a 3 inch "mouth." They are used in industrial applications like lockline is. Someone recommended the Lenntech brand. But I found them cheaper at the lfs so I bought them there. I didn't think they were ment for aquarium use. Googling micron filter bags should bring up alot of hits.

I bought one with a 3 inch opening ring. I'd think the bigger the better, to alleviate the clogging. Please keep in mind I haven't tried this yet. I am going to if I don't get transfered, I'm just telling you what the people who convinced me have said. At least for the filter bags.
