Yes I would think you would be ok but why is your ph low? What is your ph, alk, cal, mag ?There is a reason its low and that needs to be addressed.

my ph is about 7.8 -8.0 im not sure but lfs said that it should be that light blue on the scale. (tetra test) i dont have any knind of test kit to test those kinds of things. would you reccomend the lfs said that it would be cheaper and easier to have him test it.then today he says its ok to keep a yellow tang in a 30 gal i thought it was unreasonable but he says 1 inch equals 5 gallons idk if i should buy one? yellow tangs are niceeeee lol

Yes the Yellows are nice but they are also free swimmers. I will not tell you you cant but alot of people will. Most will say and I will agree that you need a 6 foot tank for them. You can buy a small juv. like 1 inch or so if you plan to upgrade soon, like real soon. As far as the other tests; Cal. Mag, Alk I think if I were you I would buy my own kits and do your own tests. Your PH should be above 8.0 allways. 8.2 is great, it sound like if you get your cal and mag anf alk in order you can throw the buffer away.

I would do all test first before adding a buffer.
If you insist on adding a buffer, Kent's buffer needs to be dripped in. I would recommend that you make it drip about a drop every 2 seconds as it will be less stressful for the fish.

Your tank is cycling and the pH tends to do this when the other numbers are so off. How are your ammonia/trite/trate levels?
Oh this is another reason why you shouldn't cycle with fish. These are the imbalances that occur during the process. All of these things will balance back out after your cycle is complete.
Buy a tang and throw it in there to really mess up your bio-load, do it tomorrow. The biggest one they have would be great!
