I live in Monroe, LA and we have been infested with flies. everyone that i know here has a bad problem with these flies and gnats. they are huge. dime sized fruit flies. there are at least 100 flies in my house and a ton of gnats. they are driving me crazy.
i am going out of town this weekend, and was thinking of setting off one of those bug bombs. if i cover my tank with plastic do you guys think it will be ok? i would think that if the poison got in the tank, it would crash. i don't want that.
any advice???

i don't think there is any way you can bomb the house and prevent the pesticides from getting into your tank.

I do not recommend doing this, but I have in fact done it, we had a bad flea problem, our yard is full of them and we had a cat for a while.... long story short, IMO the only way to do this safely is to spread a sheet over the tank, cover the sheet with plastic, then cover the plastic with a sheet. The sheet is to absorb any pesticides that may try and enter the tank, the plastic obviously to keep it out, and the second sheet as backup for the first. You will want to cover your tank completely, top to bottm, and secure the sheet or plastic at the bottom of the tank. ALL OF THE WAY AROUND!!!! No air should be going into or out of the tank except for what is already in it. You will have to keep your power heads on no doubt for circulation, but if you have a fuge I recommend turning it off and covering seperately. Once you are done with the bomb, make sure you air your house out for no less than 6 hours before removing the stuff from on top of the tank. 12-24 is best, but obviously some of our livestock will not allow for that. Open all windows, turn on as many fans as you can, blow it from one room to the next, then out a window or door, force the air into and out of your home... It worked for me, no more fleas, no tank crash, not even a single problem at all... hope this helps

well after reading and searching the internet, i found where you can get a 2 liter coke bottle and cut the end off and flip it over, just like our little homemade fish traps, and put vineger or apple cider in it. they get in it and cant' get out eventually drowning.
well i didn't have any vinegar, so i put Karo Syrup in there with some honey, left it while i ate lunch, went and looked and there were already 5 dead in it. so hopefully this will work and i wont have to bomb anything.
thanks guys
