Build my own aquarium.

Yes, but the materials will not be cheap, and it will be difficult to keep it from leaking.
This topic was brought up before so you would find something if you did some searches.

Unless you are building a gigantic tank, it is usually not cost effective to build it yourself. The materials will usually cost you more than the cost of buying a pre-built tank. Thick glass (thicker than 1/4 inch) is usually very expensive. Plexiglass can be tricky to use because the edges need to be really straight to glue properly. They can also bow if you don't use the right thickness acrylic (and brace it properly).
Also, if the home-made tank leaks, you can't blame anyone but yourself!
Good luck,

You'll just have to watch want ads in your local newspapaer, or from a large city near your area. The tank is only one part of the equipment you need to have a successful tank. Don't buy something you can't afford to equip properly. Glass tanks are very affordable these days. At a local large pet store chain here, you can buy a 125 gallon tank for under $400.

I know that it is expensive I want a bigger tank, and am planning on doing it piece by piece. My girlfreind wants a shool of bannerfish. Not possible in a 55.

As far as where you can get a cheap tank, look in the classifieds, or on ----. I just got my tank last week off of ---- for real cheap. It is a 75g - nice stand, with 85lbs lr, the water, filtration system, MH lighting canopy and light, some inverts, and lots of extras. I only paid $400. So there are good deals out there if you are willing to be patient.

there are also salvage yards that sell acrylic so look around and be patient and do it right. there is one in san fran that sell all sizes of acrylic sheets for dirt cheap. and i really mean dirt cheap. who is that guy in that reef?????
