building a sump...

Well i have a 55 gallon tank.
i want to do a 20g Long sump/(eventually refugium)
my tank is not drilled : /...so what overflow box would be best and which return pump should i use.
also would a 20g long allow for my 1000 Multi Turboflotor Protein skimmer? (The Turboflotor 1000 Multi (measures 7-1/2" x 15" x 21-1/4" high) includes a pump and fittings. This versatile unit can be used as a hang-on style or placed inside or outside of the sump. Only the water supply pump needs to be placed in the aquarium or sump. Two outflow boxes direct water back to the aquarium or sump. For aquariums up to 250 gallons.)
i was planning to do those cutting board sheets that Mr. x has in his DIY fourm.
am i missing anything?
not really sure what its supposed to look like but here is a design of what i want it to look like

i am not the expert here but reading as much as I can. I believe you will hear two things to look at here.
1. move your skimmer return so that it is in a different compartment then the pump.- no since in reskimming
2. is there any way to have the refugium before the skimmer. nutrients into refug then skim then return.
I dont have a fuge yet, so yours will be 100 times better then what I have. Looking and reading and will be soon adding.

IMO that would be better. But if you could have it skip it and go to the return area, that way only unskimmed(? is that a word) water would flow through the fuge. I have also read that you want less flow in a fuge. Are you going with a DSB in the fuge area? That would also lead me to say do not dump skimmer in fuge area. Do a search on fuges, there are lots of examples and drawings on them.
I am limited on space with a bow front tank. I am looking at two tanks one for wet/dry, skimmer and return pump and the other for the fuge emptying into the skimmer area. Just working out size and details.
Good luck and like I said earlier what ever you go with it is better then nothing.

That is close to what I am setting up, but do to limited space, my fuge will be seperate from the sump tank. It looks like this, with a valve on the pvc right before it enters the fuge, to control flow in fuge. Forgive my poor sketch
Thoughts?

beck do you have a thread started on this? I would be more than happy to help you out but I think that I hi-jacked joey's thread. I would PM but I guess you don't have the post count yet?
What is the OF and return pump size.....

I have the same set up and there is about 8" of water in my sump
it just depends on where you put the baffles
